It wouldn't be a Mrs Gennari maths lesson without a bit of art thrown in, so we used geoboards and dot paper to replicate triangular designs using a variety of shapes! Crafty!
How many places in the real world can you see triangles?
Today we explored the world of geometry, specifically triangles and their side and angle properties. Digging deep into the world of history, we also discovered the origins of the words equilateral, isosceles and scalene, discovering that many geometrical terms have Greek origins. The ancient Greeks made sense of their world through maths, hence why so many words have roots in their language. It wouldn't be a Mrs Gennari maths lesson without a bit of art thrown in, so we used geoboards and dot paper to replicate triangular designs using a variety of shapes! Crafty! Term 3 compliment goal = 35. By the 16th of September we had reached 41 compliments until this happened . . . We set up our very own Science Fair in the foyer outside our classroom. We invited the school community and each and EVERY one of them showed up to view our extraordinary experiments and displays. Then the compliments started to flow and our total blew out to the amazing total that you just saw! The Science Fair was a hit and this is why . . . From lemon energy, food colouring experiments, exploding volcanoes, bubble machines, electromagnets to wind turbines and solar powered cars, we had it all. Great job S23K, you worked so hard and your hard work paid off!
Inspired by the amazing illustrations in Ted Hughes' novel 'The Iron Man', we sketched and shaded our own Iron Man portraits using white chalk and black pastel on black cardstock. We learned that it was important to create a basic outline first, then add detail once the positioning and scale was spot on. Shading with chalk and pastel was easier than it looked, as the corner of a tissue or a plain old finger work as great smudging tools!
As you can see, we have many talented artists in S23K, who are able to represent Iron Man in a variety of forms and moods. What do you think he is feeling when his eyes glow different colours? We hope you enjoy our gallery of Careers Day! There was plenty to see, plenty to do and a lot to imagine for our futures!
